#266132 X Factor The Musical To The Palladium

Posted Titan on 22 May 2013 - 03:16 PM

Whilst this has potential, especially with a better title now, I just think they have missed the boat.  X Factors audience has been dwindling for the last few years, and shows taking the mickey out of singing competitions have been done before. I dont think fans of the show (who are probably also Harry Hill fans) will have an issue with it taking the piss out of X Factor, but neither do I think they will flock to London to see it, and i cant imagine it getting the tourist market much either.

Families will have plenty of other shows to see (and if Charlie is the hit it could be they wlll be flocking to see that).

Although people invest their saturday nights into xfactor, its just an evening entertainment programme. they dont invest much time and money into the show after that (otherwise more winnerswould be more successful)

Natalie and sheridan are no way good enough singers for those roles, let alone the acting aspect

He was awful in wss but ok in south pacific, but mainly as the role doesnt require much acting. He doesnt seem to have any control in his voice, no light or shade, he just belts it out and he really cant act. He does seem to see himself as the next joj, ramin, matt rawle etc so hopefully maybe he has worked on the acting side of things.

That blog is fairly accurate most of the time, and its been reported in the press that he was doing one show per week. Its odd that new cast contracts are only until sept. It is odd the majority of leading roles havent leaked yet

Thats the first ive heard about him taking over full time in september, which i hope isnt true

Agreed - i really don't understand why the americans are loving Kinky Boots.I'm hearing a lot raving about it over Matilda? strange..

i mean i enjoyed myself but i'm not raving about it! i really thought the score was such a weak point.

Thats how i felt about matilda. As good as it is it is not the second coming people seem to say it is

Well i dont live in london and never have, and love my regional theatre and see more regional than i do london. Whilst i would not necessarily expect the west end set, they could have done more than what they did. Priscilla barely has a set anyway except the bus. Hell Summer Holiday toured. They could have put a back wall on the bus with an interior design inside and the screens outside. There are other options

Yes they have two seperate allocations, although you cant book whats online over the phone, which is a pain when you have vouchers to use

^ thats a slightly snobbish attitude. Not liking sondheim does not make you unsophisticated. Its just personal taste.

Its not a case of not being like the west end, its a case of very cheap production values when charging the top end of touring show prices. A show can be different to the west end but still offer a quality production (eg phantom) The bus is embaressing and more could have been done. I know people have left at interval and made negative comments so its not an opinion of just people here.

Wickedlover never said it needed names. They just said the cast leaked so far didnt encourage them to go back. Two very different things. And i agree with them. The cast (excluding koek) maybe talented but none of the names leaked so far make me want to see it again

Except DD still sells out regardless. They did attempt to rectify it by recasting the lead.  A friend who saw it sad it was noticably different to the London show, even changing some aspects of it which she couldnt understand why.

I only saw the London show and whilst it (and the audience) wasnt my kind of idea of a good night out, I thought the production was a good standard with some clever set/staging ideas and the cast were all great. If you wanted the movie on stage, you got it.

and also the woman who produced Mamma Mia (which I love by the way)

She is hardly the queen of original theatre.  Ive lost a lot of respect for her over this, some of the stuff she comes out with. I know its an attempt at good PR, but its so off the mark no one buys it.  I wonder if Mamma Mia was more luck than judgement now

Completely agree, however its not always obvious. For example a show about dancers auditioning you wouldnt automatically assume would talk about sex etc so some guidance by shows isnt the worst idea in the world
