Kristin Scott Thomas was Kate, Lia Williams was Anna. KST is much more suited to the role of Kate, so it'll be interesting to see it the other way around. Which I hopefully will before too much longer. Was hoping for next week but suddenly the performance schedule is "yet to be confirmed"

V interesting: We saw it a few nights back: KST as Anna, and came out saying how glad we were we'd seen it that way round as she suited Anna more than Kate, BUT how we could see her playing Kate just as well!  Sign of a great actress!  She seemed to have a hoot with Anna.

#226783 A Doll's House - Young Vic

STUNNING production.  Much better than the Donmar one a few years back. MONEY theme definitely at the forefront.  V slick 1st preview. Beautiful design (and revolve!  You might get dizzy!!!) complimented the powerful performances, and music.  Some minor flaws abound, notably Act 3's end-showdown duologue which for all it's realism repeats itself again and again and ends up SLOWING everything down and diminishing the ending's power...big shame, as up til then, just brilliant.  If they can cut that last bit in half, perfect.

Morahan fantastic, and Nick Fletcher (new to me) standouts.

Not on long, get involved!

(But got to the loo beforehand: Acts 1&2 = 1hr 45minutes!!!! Interval, then much shorter Act3.)

#224470 The Last Of The Haussmans

Posted paultheatre on 12 June 2012 - 11:12 PM

First preview: nice, if slow building play.  A leisurely time with the Haussmans.  Drifted at times.  Act 2 better than first, but still not sure it's "saying" that much.  The programme is stuffed with a lot of "The 60's" info etc, but not sure how much that related to play as a whole.  Echoes of LOVE LOVE LOVE: children of 60's-youth-for-parents.  Helen McCrory BLAZING.  Julie Walters doing what she does well.  Kinnear his usual great self, with Kinnear-style angst/frustration.  Matthew Marsh's character needed MORE.  Set is beautiful.  Lyttleton Revolve a go-go. Pleasant, but not WOW.  McCrory steals it.
