#264486 Theatre Blogs And Reviews.

Posted Steffi on 06 May 2013 - 07:13 AM

Obviously you are entitled to your opinion on this but so are all the bloggers (who should just stop writing according to you) and the people who actually enjoy reading the various blogs.

I am a blogger myself, however I usually don't put links to my blog on here (unless you count the link in my profil). Why do I blog? Quite simple: Because I enjoy writing and I love writing about my main passion which happens to be theatre. My blog consists of reviews and some interviews with performers. I sometimes write about general things that I feel are worth a mention (my blog post about the WOS Awards actually made it on here - and no,  it wasn't me who posted the link).

I don't want to be a professional writer, I don't want to be famous - I just enjoy writing. Obviously it's great if people enjoy my reviews, interviews and such. But I'm not expecting anyone to be interested - anyone who thinks my blog is a waste of time can just ignore it.

#264145 "voluntary" Donations When Booking Online

Posted Dawnstar on 02 May 2013 - 07:37 PM

I had this come up when I was booking for Opera Holland Park a couple of weeks ago. Since I had spent 2 hours wrestling with their acting-up booking website I screamed something unrepeatable at the sight of it! I'm afraid that I never make any "voluntary" donations to anywhere. They're already getting my money in ticket price & often extortionate booking fees on top. Also, as someone who is still temping several years after graduating, no matter how much in need of money these theatres claim to be I bet they have a hell of a lot more money than I do!

Cashback or loyalty points, and delayed payment, if you use a credit card. There's no real disadvantage either.

Does anyone ever buy a programme online when they book NT tickets? Is there any possible advantage?

Sometimes, so that I don't have to worry about having the right change with me. But there's no real advantage, unlike the Barbican where you save something like 30% if you buy your programme (and ice cream) in advance.

How about having something like this printed in luminous glow-in-the-dark lettering?

"YOU HAVE RECEIVED THIS CARD BECAUSE YOU ARE TALKING OR OTHERWISE CAUSING A NUISANCE TO YOUR FELLOW THEATRE GOERS. PLEASE RESPECT THE REST OF THE AUDIENCE AND REMAIN SILENT DURING THE PERFORMANCE. THANK YOU."

And leaving it on their battered corpse as a warning to others? I like it.

a boy of about 13 started, halfway through the show, to... well... to do something people say leads to baldness, stunted growth and hairy hands. Oddly he was by himself.

Your autocorrect is broken. It put "oddly" where you typed "more understandably than anything else in human history".

Yes, I think you missed the full-on sex scene between the two leads.

Yes, we must all remember to consistently point out the nationality of every single miscreant in this thread, just to be fair. Could we all please revisit our posts and edit as necessary?

Alternatively, we could regard it as extraneous, or something.

I don't understand this thread. All the guys mentioned above are doing their jobs and we pay to see em do it. Who else do you want on the stage?   Of course if they are known to be good, their shows will sell well. Same with plumbers. If they plumb well, they get well known and much in demand.

But people don't get excited when lots of great plumbers are all fixing pipes in the same city at the same time

Went in at 5:45 and asked for dayseats and was offered Stalls or Dress Circle for £20

I think they'd have to pay me more than £20 to sit through it :)

At Singin In The Rain, woman in front of us was on her phone throughout, realised later that she was updating her facebook status with a running commentary on the show! The light from her phone was so distracting.

Did you not ask her to turn it off? Or at least report it to a member of staff? People need to become more assertive towards this sort of bad behaviour. If someone is ruining your enjoyment of the show why just sit there and do nothing? I don't get it.

What a horribly selfish turn this topic has taken. I often attend the theatre with a patent who suffers asthma. Theatres are old dusty buildings and a lot of the stalls sections are actually underground. Even the damp in the air that a person blessed with regular breathing would never notice can cause unintentional coughing fits. Consider the struggles of others before moaning about them.

im with mark, sick of union people just going on strike just because they think they have it hard. would they rather not have a job!?
Would gladly pay ATG's exorbitant booking and transaction fees if I thought they were paying their staff a decent wage. Put my support down for the lefty's

No sorry Mallardo Leserf has a point, it is about perceived value.  Quite rightly if ticket prices are the same as a bigger budget show the audience has the right to expect more, this is the downside to the increasing ticket prices, the audience will expect more for their money..  Of course you equat cost to a certain level of quality and 'bang for your buck', theatre is no different to any other walk of life.
