Yes, I read the second article the day of or day after its publication. It didn't amount to much. So far The Secret Footballer series, longer established too, has provided longer articles and been much more interesting than the actor-equivalent.

That's a nice feature of plays at the National, seeing the likes of Emma Lowndes, Emma Black and others unfamiliar to me at present but who may build up work over several plays and raise their profile.

I am sure that such theatre awards ceremonies, Oliviers probably, have been broadcast late in the recent past. I put this down to the way theatre is considered more marginal than are cinema and TV, those latter media being given mid-evening broadcasts padded out with plenty of celebrity chat and the use of often well chosen and evocative film clips.
I think ITV's South Bank Show used to get Sunday evening awards broadcast at about 10pm, perhaps because awards got awarded to people writing books, making films, performing music, appearing in plays etc., rather than just one medium.

I'd love to see that, armadillo, but have agreed to do something else with others tomorrow. I have seen Lamda productions before and enjoyed them. I didn't see the Summerfolk production by NT that you refer to, very good cast involved, but did see the RSC stage it at the Aldwych Theatre in 1974, it being the first Gorky I had seen staged, and it was good.

In general 'theatre at the cinema' is a good thing for the kind of reasons other posters have mentioned. That people well beyond London and for whom NT provincial tours do not include their local city, can now see NT productions presented to theatre audiences while they sit with their fellow audience members in a cinema is a wonderful thing. It makes the community of those interested in theatre much larger.
