This didn't happen to me but a  friend said there was a bloke behind her loudly pointing out to his companion  the name and party of each PM in The Audience until it got to Eden who he, apparently couldn't identify even after a whole scene
That reminds me of an incident that wasn't so much 'bad behaviour' - not sure what the category would be - at a performance of Danton's Death at the NT. When people started being guillotined, which was portrayed quite effectively, the man behind us leaned in to his companion and helpfully stage-whispered: "False heads" by way of explaining the apparent decapitations.

Similarly, at a NT platform talk given by Peter Hall he was discussing directing Shakespeare plays. Near me was a supercillious man with his glum teenage son who was clearly undergoing Shakespeare Induction and was having it in stereo, with Sir Peter's explanations receiving affirmation and back-up from Father. At one point Hall quoted the opening lines of Merchant of Venice to illustrate pentameter. The man, with eyes closed and a fixed smile, nodded his head in time with the lines, then as Hall said "Those are the opening lines of the Merchant of Venice" the man leaned in to his son and said "Yes, that is correct." I'm sure Hall would've been relieved.

Perhaps the above are Slightly Annoying or Plain Silly Behaviour at a Show.

#251123 Favourite Lyrics In Les Mis

"It's just a jump to the left, and then a step to the right, put your hands on your hip, and bend your knees in time, and it's the pelvic thrust that drives you really insane..."

Best lyrics in the whole show <3

#247618 Theatre Seating Reviews

Posted theatremonkey.com on 03 December 2012 - 06:22 PM

Hi Becky, yes K is very different to T. K has a mass of legroom and can see the whole stage, T is cramped and can't. K is one of my favourite rows, T is just somewhere I'd sit if I had to... Not sure why they clumped them together either.

Any help is indeed good - Trip Advisor can be helpful and there are blogs and other sites, but I'm so glad you are a Theatremonkey fan.

The site celebrated 12 years online on 1st December 2012 (older than "Trip Advisor" I think!), and I still love the fact that a single person (me) had done over 20 years of research before I wrote that first site, and I still learn more every time. It remains unique in what it does, and thousands of readers' help keep it what it is, I hope, too. :)

Glad you liked the text re-vamp, 6 weeks and a surgical wrist strap later... and that's just the start...

Happy Theatregoing,
Steve.

Xanderl is on a roll - two very funny posts (I have sat silently through two terrible mumbly stage performances of Rebecca Hall's - but no more!)

The birthday cake image is particulary hilarious.

But as the 25-year-old delivered the play's final words on its opening night it became clear that one member of the audience was less than impressed.

"Stop, stop, stop," a mystery voice boomed from the stalls. "It doesn't work and you don't work. It is not good enough. I could be at home watching television."
They were stunned to discover that the culprit was none other than Sir Peter Hall, former director of the National Theatre and a colossus of the theatre world.

I wish I'd taken this approach and shouted at his daughter during his rubbish production of Twelfth Night.

Agreed. I know for one that I would be very offended if I was a performer and I found out people were discussing whether on not I was pregnant! (Although that may well have something to do with being male...)
