I enjoyed this because I was discovering a piece that was new to me. I’m getting very bored with Jones staging everything in in a ceilinged room furnished in the 70’s & 80’s colours!
The guy can work wonders in opera (although even opera patrons are getting bored with 70’s kitsch) but his plays aren’t up to the same standard.
The text did appear to go round in the circles, especially at the start, is that due to the translation?
I feel the end should be quite devastating but under Jones direction it was very flat. Feel sorry for the actors none of them looked comfortable on that stage …

I would love to see a chamber version of Light in the Piazza or Candide at the Chocolate Factory or Pal Joey or anything by Kander and Ebb .... but that’s just my wish list

I wasn’t too impressed with this at the Chocolate Factory. The performances are now much stronger in the West End but I don’t think it’s a great production Plus I really miss the original book. The graduation scene really adds to it’s dramatic weight “why can’t it be like it was”
Slightly changing subject, I went to Paris a few weeks ago to See Sunday at the Chatalet, now that was well directed

As others have already said go for ENO's Bohme
Lots of ticket offers around for this, but dont let that put you off as it's really excellent.
A lot of the staging takes place on upper levels so plump for the dress circle
I hope you enjoy it :-)
