#265057 Desperately Seeking The Exit's Questionable Ad Campaign

Actually, the ad campaign for Exit has been the same for the past year (which you can see at the website www.SeekingTheExit.com).

So why did you title this thread "Questionable Ad Campaign" if it's your ad campaign (and which you evidently don't want questioned)?

My company produced Exit in Manchester so I know how bloody hard he works. Not hiding anything, don't really see what difference it makes

It's nice that you want to defend a
friend/colleague. I'm sure we've all done that ourselves. But it means you're not providing an objective view.

Criticising posters as 'not supporting theatre' when they express their honest opinions about a show's concept or advertising is not going to win Peter or his show any friends. I've been quite intrigued by the idea myself, and thought about getting tickets, but I'm afraid this thread is rather putting me off. I have this aversion to being compared to a Nazi....

Do people who go to the toilet in the middle of the show not care about missing part of the show?

Probably not as much as they care about having to travel home with the embarrassingly conspicuous understain of doom.

Of course, they could always bring a bottle and a funnel and go without missing anything. Let's face it, it's only a matter of time. (I wish I could say with confidence that it would never happen, but I know better.)

Judy Crapmer, according to quote in tonight's Evening Standard:

“These days you have to be fearless to produce a new musical, something that is not a revival, a film or a tribute show, but something really original.”

I think "talented" is the word she was aiming for.

To me the problem with most jukebox musicals is that they have the most pitifully dreadful books, seemingly on the assumption that the music will do all the work and all that's needed to turn a catalogue into a musical is to wrap it up with a bit of string. The only jukebox musicals I've really liked are those where a strong book (and a tried and tested one rather than an original one) was used to tie the music together. If the story is strong enough that it would be able to stand on its own without the added popularity of the music then the show deserves to survive. If the only purpose of the story is to allow you to call it a musical instead of a tribute band then it would be better not to bother.

There should be no food at the theatre regardless of where you buy it. It's not beyond the realms of possibility to go for 2.5hrs without food. Eat before you go to the theatre or eat after, not during. I don't care if it's a McFlurry, theatre bought ice cream or a picnic (as per a tweet of mine from long past) it's really NOT necessary.  Heck I love my food but I can manage a few hours without it.

#261672 The Ongoing Wicked Discussion Thread

Posted Lou Lee on 11 April 2013 - 03:42 PM

I see there has been a lot of discussion recently about a London cast recording. I absolutely agree that the producers missed their chance particularly with the 2011 cast. In my opinion, Wicked never sounded better!

Si I've been in the process recently of producing a mock up version of a London cast recording using Audio enhancing software to produce the best possible results. These audios which are now available on Youtube have taken too many hours to count in order to produce a professional sounding quality.

Please feel free to check out my videos, or subscribe to 'Lou lee' to check out the videos. If there is enough interest from you all then I'll start attaching links.

These recordings are an ongoing project and I'm always looking to improve where necessary and with appropriate feedback. The recording I'm really struggling with is the big one 'DG' but I'll get there eventually. They just take up a huge amount of time. In the mean time please feel free to check out the videos and any feedback is always much appreciated!

Oh and a wee tip, you really need to check out the audios using headphones to appreciate the full quality of the recordings:)

I have to say the current BBC headline "Show performs Thatcher death song" gives a rather different impression that if the same story were headlined "Show carries on as normal"...

#259052 Matilda Musical

Posted MusicalTalk on 19 March 2013 - 06:40 PM

Shows are easier to tour in the US than the UK because the span is so much more vast and more theatres are available.  Remember it took 8 years for the hugely successful Wicked to tour the UK, and has done US tours since 2005 - just two years after it opened on Broadway.

Matildas has not had its first night on Broadway yet but, let's face it, the competition isn't fierce with such clapped out shows as ANNIE and CINDERELLA being the competition, Matilda will do find on Broadway.

#256130 X Factor The Musical To The Palladium

I honestly thought X Factor The Musical was an online April Fool type joke until I read somewhere that Simon Cowell had attended a workshop! Still cannot believe this will actually happen and certainly not at the Palladium.
