Tonight at Relatively Speaking... two women who were charring away...

Sorry Lynette, I know (assume!) that is a typo...but I just love the thought of a couple of women in their overalls, scrubbing, dusting and vacuuming up and down the aisles during the play!

Phew, glad I wasn't the only one who actually laughed out loud several times! ;-)

I didn't really expect to enjoy it I admit, but I couldn't help myself! Even my hubbie chuckled a few times, and he barely knows who McKellen & Jacobi are, but the silliness of it was what appealed to him. I think we'll be giving it a chance and watching again...and anything with Marcia Warren in gets my attention too!

If you go the BO about 45 mins or so before showtime you might get lucky by asking if they have any deals. I got two £42.50 tickets down from £35 to £27.50 by just standing and hmmmm-ing and haaaa-ing then asking if they had any day seats.

It might depend on who's on duty and how many seats they have but nothing ventured etc etc....

I've been to almost all of them since the first in 1999 and they have always been the most wonderful evening. Where else will you see fabulous West End and Broadway stars, along with a magnificent choir and ensemble for £60!

Have so many magic moments from over the years - last year's has to be Ricardo Afonso singing Til I Hear You Sing. Spine tingling.

Nothing much to add to all the previous reviews. I agree with most.

Overall, I loved it. I was a little disappointed with Hugh Jackman's singing which I was really looking forward to. I felt it was a bit nasal, but his acting was so wonderful, I managed to get over it!

Anne Hathaway, well it's all been said. I agree that the Thenardiers were played for light relief rather than the wicked monsters portrayed in the story but they were okay. Thought Helena BC was a vast improvement over her Mrs Lovett!

Now, I admit I don't like Russell Crowe. I'm not a film person so I've only ever seen him in Gladiator on TV but he's one of those actors I just don't take to. My mind hasn't been changed. He is no great singer.  And all those awful close-ups - I just felt like I wanted to slap him! Javert is my favourite character from any book I've read and I feel very protective towards him - contrary to some people's belief, he is not evil, cruel or malicious - and I was relieved that he was at least portrayed as a dedicated officer of the law, even if it was only on one level....

Anyway. I cried. A lot.
