'Spuffling' -what a great word :) and I thought exactly the same. I wonder if it's partly nerves- he was almost as bad when I saw Deathtrap, also very near the beginning of the run but I didn't notice it at all in Collaborators which I didn't see until very late on.

It may have been because Colin Tierney was off, so there was a replacement who went on with the script.
Oh no! Anyone know if he's back -supposedly  seeing this at Ipswich tomorrow and was looking forward to it.

Are we sure he wasn't just pausing?

A Brechtian pause.
Not even a Pinteresque one. I mean, that's what we all thought at first but then he put his hands on his head, turned to the audience and came out of character to say 'no, sorry'. The girl on the book read out the line which he then asked her to repeat. Extraordinary. I saw him do The Alchemist and Galileo in rep without drawing breath. Lynette is right, it has to be the writing. Anyway, I don't think it'll happen again! And Spencer still gave it 4 stars.

Saw this last night - some critics (Spencer, Letts, the Mail on Sunday woman) were in ahead of tonight's press night. Enjoyable - very atmospheric set/lighting/sound and much funnier than I'd imagined. Great acting all round, some big names for tiny cameo roles. They seemed to be having trouble with all the wires and props (at one point, John Heffernan was searching for something in his pocket which he couldn't find, still not sure whether he was meant to or not!)

But - SHOCK! HORROR! - SRB took a prompt!!!!!!!!!! (Even worse, he couldn't hear it the first time and had to ask for it to be repeated).

Is there anywhere to see Roger Allam's speech re. Michael Frayn?
