In a way the Producers have done a very clever thing - generating all this interest and hype about the show. I bet they were waitng till Rachel was back from holiday before making any announcements - but the Mail forced them into telling us sooner than planned.

Can't imagine how Rachel will feel about all this.  I imagine Louise will make a very funny Elphaba !

I agree, there is already a lot of interest around the fact she is the first actress to do both roles, although I am sure if she had never played Glinda that she would have been Elphaba one day too.

Well to be honest, this doesn't surprise me at all.

Although you say it's hard to see Louise in the role, I remember before Rachel took over everyone thought Louise would make for a perfect Elphaba.

So yeah, I'm glad - first actress to play BOTH leading roles. Brill :)

Looking forward to seeing what Rachel does next. That comment she apparently made about ' being green again very soon' is very intriguing. Hopefully all will become clear soon :)

I wonder if this is a short term fix as they have not stated the length of contract. Maybe producers did not prefer other auditionees and she was brought in.  Could be why the announcement is late. Contracts do seem to run along side booking periods.  The current period ends in April 2013.

Louise will also keep the existing fan base and bring back olds just out of interest.  The AV has not really been packing them in even at weekends when Ive been. You always bring in someone who is as good if not better than the person you replaced. Probably also they are trying to avoid the issues that happened when Alex Khadime came in. Repalcing a fans favourite with an unknown. Also I wonder if getting work after being a lead wasnt going as well as she hoped. I do think she will be great in the role though. Wouldnt be surprised if she turned up at CC.

That's what i am expecting. She sure deserves it :)

Also agree about Louise bringing in the fans ..... But she would have had to audition like eveyone else wouldn't she ?
Bet she'll be there at CC to support Rachel.

I read elsewhere that Broadway cast change was end of september. They usually go for someone who has done the US tour.
