Ive just been watching episodes of Id Do Anything and only just realised how many stars it has actually produced. Three of the top four finalists have all had mega carrers in musicals!

Jodie Prenger has obviously done Oliver and now doing One Man in West End. She has also reguarly appeared on TV.

Samantha Barks has done Caberet, Les Mis and now is being Internationally recognised as an actress and singer for her role in the film.

Rachel Tucker was in  WWRY and is Wicked royalty for being Elphaba for three years.

I find it amazing that these 3 stars all came from the same origin.

And Jessie Buckley is about to play Miranda opposite Roger Allam and Colin Morgan in The Tempest at the Globe.

Samantha is the standout... Has to be said. Shes managed to be an international actress and star. This film is gonna take her places. For her to be nominated for Best Supporting Actress awards, losing out only to Anne Hathaway is pretty amazing for your first time, and at her age

Add to that Niamh Perry recently finished a run in Taboo at the Brixton Clubhouse, and Ashley Russell's currently in Shrek.


I think you're exaggerating a little about Sam Barks though.  She's wonderful in Les Mis, best thing about the movie for me, but she's only been nominated for one semi-major Supporting Actress award and she's not an international star yet by any means.  She'll get more recognition from Les Mis without a doubt, and she certainly earned her ticket to the BAFTAs and the Oscars, but she's not an international name, she needs to get a few more big roles before that would happen.  She's still on the fringes of celebrity, but much more so than the others.

In terms of musical theatre success, Rachel wins I think, Elphaba's about as big as it gets for a leading lady in the West End currently.  Sam was great in Cabaret and is obviously brilliant in Les Mis, plus she's had the Oliver tour, but she hasn't had a huge West End lead role yet.

So Rachel's not far behind Sam in terms of overall success at the minute, but Sam's the only one who's diversifying, and the one whose star is really on the rise.

I did'nt mean to sound to exaggerating of Samantha, I did mean pretty much what you said She is being reviewed brilliantly in Les Mis and its going to open alot of doors for her. I love Rachel, and she deserved to be the longest running Elphaba in West End, shes stunning

Also what about Siobhan Dillon? Wasnt she on that show too or was that a different one?  If I recall Sarah Lark was also on it and she's currently in Les Mis at Queens, I know not a huge name outside of MT, but she was in the show and one I really wanted to be in the last 3. Dont hear too much about the boys in Joseph. I know Lee Meade & Daniel Boyes have done well, Keith Jack just seems to permanently be in Joseph tour & there was one who was involved in some soft porn films I heard.  Its interesting to see how some people's careers are panning out from these reality TV shows

I've never watched any of these programmes but have just booked for The Tempest so I hope Jessie Buckley can act

Siobhan came third on 'How Do You Solve A Problem Like Maria?'

It seems that the most recognisable names to date have all come from 'I'd Do Anything'  nearly all of the potential Nancy's are currently in shows, and Katie Hall who only made it to the bootcamp section is doing well with Les Mis and Phantom under her belt.

Sam is only 22 too.  I noted the first time watching the  Les Mis Film, how strong her singing was (whisper it - she almost steals the show)  and looking again closely on a second visit, her acting is pretty damn good too. Hopefully doors will keep on opening.  

There's quite a few people diversifying - you can add Amy who is currently with the National Theatre as Dolly in One Man Two governors to the list above. Keisha I read  is touring  in Lion King too.

Niamh is a beautiful singer - its about time someone put something on in the West End that needs/shows that,  and allows  more people  to see her. Francesca is another success story from that  series - last seen in Million Dollar Quartet?  

Its too early  yet to really compare careers. Others may be one role away from greatness. Jessie Buckley was simply stunning singing cabarets and concerts after Little Night Music,  and she's just about to finish her 3 year course at RADA,  and not much older than Sam. . There's also the girls from Over The Rainbow in the  same age bracket - five or six  have already played leading roles successfully,  and I think  three more are leaving drama school this year, and are on my list of people to go and see when they get a role.   You just hope that  someone would put enough shows on to use more of the talent.
