They do keep back tickets for public booking of course, but I noticed with The Effect that it was basically sold out when it went on sale in the public booking period.
However the NT AWLAYS release tickets near the time of a show due to seating plans etc. and you just need to be a tiny bit organised to get these...and they are really good about putting them up for sale online...as a result I have never had to queue for day seats there....never found it necessary.
I was just surprised with Othello in particular as the Olivier is pretty large in terms of seating numbers!
On a general note, I know all the publicly funded theatres do keep back tickets for public booking but in cases like RC upstairs etc. these can go within a few minutes sometimes.

Indeed - for instance No Quarter "sold out" during members booking but tickets popped up for most dates when public booking opened

I just booked some tickets with my american express priority booking - in fact there are a quite a few seats left on most days I looked at, mostly in the circle though.

I used AmEx too- depends when you booked for. The date I looked at for Othello (a Wed Mat) there were only 30 seats left all in a block in the centre stalls, as if they'd held them back.

Just checking now and it seems like stalls are now gone for every performance!! Only a handful of seats in the circle available!!

Bagged a stalls seat for the matinee on 24th April! About a dozen left (all stalls) for that performance.

Interesting that this is selling so well. Is is because it is a Shakespeare who I suppose usually sells ok or the cast or what?

Forgot about 8.30 booking period (The BFI have the decency to appreciate I am not fully awake until thier 11.30 booking opening) and there are absolutely no Entry Pass seats! Hoping this is a staging issue rather than missed my chance.

I'm afraid there were plenty of EP seats at 8.30 this morning.
