At the Edinburgh Fringe, I would say "Mess".  The second time I have put a Caroline Horton piece in one of these lists, and it was such a moving, funny, emotional piece.
I wouldn't say a word that could be reckoned as injurious,
But to find a mother younger than her son is very curious,
And that's the kind of mother that is usually spurious.

Looking back it has been more highs than lows - though I have been to the West End venues less. Anyhows ..

Highs
Beautiful Burnout (tour at Hull Truck)
Cat on a Hot Tin Roof (West Yorkshire Playhouse)
Patience (Union Theatre)
Matilda (Cambridge Theatre)
Sweeney Todd (Adelphi Theatre)

Lows
Loserville (West Yorkshire Playhouse)
King & I (tour at Cardiff New Theatre)
Government Inspector (Northern Broadsides tour at Stephen Joseph Theatre).
The engine roared, the motor hissed,
And who could see that the road would twist

Ok, was wondering who would get this going:
Highlights
For someone who doesn't often get to musicals, Matilda and Top Hat def two off the highlights. Pure joy.

Uncle Vanya at The Print Room. Discovering new venue , two in fact, for me as hadn't been to The Jermyn st before, def a highlight. Probably All That Fall, despite the thrombosis, the highlight of the year. Something about seeing one of our best actresses at the top of her game, unselfconscious yet so crafted...

Long Day's Journey again a masterclass and what a play!
Timon of Athens rediscovered for our age and SRB doing it v well.
Red Velvet and This House: new plays, new writers.

Lowlights: sorry but King Lear at The Almeida. Shouty, shouty
A Chorus of Disapproval, not as funny as it could be ( v disappointing knicker ripping scene)

Honourable mentions:
the Dark Earth and the Light Sky, very sensitive portrayal of difficult subject for a play
Jumpy, shallow ultimately but a good laugh at the time

Seeing Kiss Me Kate tonight so,this might be the Year of the Musical for me.
