Cameron is probably involved - as he's been re-writing it and interfering, as he loves to do.
It's long been the case that Neil Patrick Harris has been Cameron's (wise) choice for someone to play Barnum.
Will be interesting to see if the show happens at all, as Cameron's been trying for about 10 years to get this off the ground.

I think this was rumoured for the Palladium, after Chorus Line finishes, but that has recently extended its limited run. Admittedly that means nothing and it can always un-extend it, but still. The extension seemed to indicate that Barnum was no longer aiming for there. Is there anywhere else it could feasibly go?

Considering how poorly its selling the Palladium could well be free.
Not sure Neil Patrick Harris is a big enough name in the UK. HIMYM isn't as huge here and on E4 which is a totally different market.

Also he is presumably committed to HIMYM for a large portion of the year, so wouldn't be available for Chichester + West End?

John Barrowman struck me as a possibility, and a quick google shows he was supposedly Cameron Macintosh's other choice of lead in 2008. He strikes me as more likely than Harris due to his higher UK profile and lack of ongoing commitments at the moment
