Saw the matinee performance today, 8th December, and whilst I loved the show I can't help but think what Caroline O'Connor would have done with the part of Dolly. Janie Dee's mind was certainly elsewhere today, I have never seen a professional actor stumble over their words or correct themselves so much as she did at today's performance and whilst she is a fabulous actress (great characterisation) I just don't think her voice is strong enough to be a memorable Dolly. This part needs a belter of a voice and Janie Dee is no belter. Laura Pitt-Pulford and Michael Xavier were divine and the ensemble are amazing. Good, but nowhere near as good as the production a couple of years ago at the Open Air Theatre.
