I wish I had paid attention to the fact that this was a Mike Bartlett version, as that would have warned me off. I couldn't believe the rave reviews for Love, Love, Love, which I found to be another thin mess. Can't recall what else I've seen in which he's had a hand but am sure he has now notched up his 3 turkeys as far as I'm concerned and is off my list.

And My Child was the first new Downstairs show of Dominic Cooke's time leading the Royal Court. Incredibly fast-moving and involving without being obvious - clear and unclear at the same time, in the most satisfying way.
I found Love Love Love exhilarating until the third act when it seemed to settle into the rut of a clearly stated argument, but maybe I misunderstood that. It was so refreshing for this big new play to tour main theatres across Britain for several months.
I've seen Earthquakes in London twice - firstly the proscenium theatre revival of the original production and secondly an immersive three-dimensional promenade final show at a leading drama school. That showed his plays have plenty of scope for future imaginative productions.

Well, Mr Bartlett clearly has a following; maybe I just don't appreciate his approach, which seems to me to place style and scale over substance.

Yes, there was a reading of Bull at the Finborough in, I think, Summer '10 and it's now becoming a full show. I don't know what connection they have as I haven't seen either.
In fact here is a piece on the reading - http://oughttobeclow...finborough.html
