Not going to Viva Forever on a free ticket does not make you a bad person.... think of it as being a nice person and allowing someone who does want to go, the chance to go instead!  Ive been offered freebies before and politely declined....even when friends were in it!  lol  Well one of them was The Mousetrap!

I wont be going to see 1M2G for a while, not until after Rufus Hound has come and gone....

Fingers crossed we get some imports or new productions next year - fingers crossed for Grey Gardens. It would suit the Lyttleton perfectly, or even somewhere smaller like the Menier or Donmar

Had a great weekend at Stratford-upon-Avon, well recommend The Orphan of Zhao and Merry Wives

I keep hearing that the Merry Wives is one of Shakespeare's lesser plays, since it was a rushed prequel to the Henry IV plays. I can see Falstaff is slightly different in it and the resolution to the romantic sub-plot is a bit underwritten, but I love it for the complete farce that it is.

I certainly can't recommend Zhao enough, when I watched the casting issues didn't once cross my mind (and as I was reviewing for this very site, it was in my forethought as I stepped into the Swan!). Am off to see the understudy run of it on Friday, that should be good.

Merry Wives, on the other hand, was a bit lapse. In parts, superb, but generally it faltered more than it got going and the direction in the final act was diabolical. I figure they have to put it somewhere date wise, but why set it so specifically in 2012? What did it add, beyond the chance to pretend there was a wireless hifi system somewhere, is beyond me entirely. I can praise the set though, the RST's fly tower has a lot of capacity!

This week coming up, I'm meant to be seeing 9 to 5, then will be seeing The Orphan of Zhao's u/s run and perhaps The Mouse and his Child, followed by Hero and whatever-the-other-thing at the Royal Court is at the moment on Saturday.

Busy week, I think I'd better have another drink...

Philip Breen did seem to stop the play at times for laughs. I sighed when they started playing that song (what is it called) as Falstaff entered Ford's house. The set was a bit cumbersome and they seemed to take a while to come on, such as the tree at the end. But as I said I enjoyed the farce that ensued.

Speaking of theatre bars....

Anyone know the bar prices (and confectionary etc) for the Old Vic?

I am going with my friends to see Kiss Me, Kate and I usually find out before I go how much things will be so I can make a little theatre going budget but the managers haven't responded to my email

Call me OCD but I like to know prices before I go!

..I'll...um....have a pinot grigio please bar tender?! !
