The studio has nothing in it from the 17^th of November and the main house is empty between the 15^th of Dec to the 25^th of Jan.

I normally really like the YV Christmas show

And isn't it busiest time for a theatre?

Perhaps The Changeling might extend beyond 15 Dec in the Main House, as Three Sisters has now. In December, Going Dark plays in the Maria and The Shawl in the Clare.

It is a little strange that they could extend Three Sisters isn't it ? Is it usual to have gaps in the programming like that ? The Changeling wasn't really much good, doubt it will have enough mass appeal to extend, whatever novelty it had came from the staging in a the smaller space, it will look pretty anaemic in the main house.

The Young Vic often has gaps in the Main House. I expect they can afford fewer productions per year than they would like. But it does have the advantage of quite easily allowing limited extensions. Also, it means they can announce new shows with months of notice, which suits the regular organised theatregoers who book everything well in advance, but also announce new performance runs at short notice after the press reviews and word of mouth are out, and these can be attended by a much more immediate reactive audience, like how the cinema audience works. The Young Vic is totally on the ball with respect to its various audiences.

Unfortunately- the Young Vic audiences are amongst the worst in London.

As for The Changeling, I enjoyed its craziness and novelty, but as a production it didn't work- it made a mess of the play. The best thing about it was Jessica Raine, who I see is not in the Main House revival. However Sinead Matthews and Harry Hadden Paton are which annoys me greatly, as I have no desire to see that production again!

The Changeling is a mess of a play. Most productions are edited versions, some attempting to tidy the mess.

Thanks for clearing that all up then, the Young Vic programming and productions are beyond criticism.

At least in the main house Changeling the audience won't be overwhelmed by the sickly sweet smell of 20th century jelly in a production which is purporting to be set sometime prior to the creation of artificial sweeteners.

The Young Vic has extended The Changeling  until 22 December.
