Exciting (and perhaps rather unexpected given the existence of the Palladium Cast Recording upon which this production was based) news today that there IS going to be a Drury Lane cast recording of Oliver - with Rowan Atkinson and Jodie. Apparently it is to be recorded live.
Glad to hear! Personally I really enjoyed this production and am looking forward to having a live recording of it!

I think it's already been recorded. Release date is 16th March. (link)
Great news!
A lot of live recordings at the moment (Zorro is the other one that immediately springs to mind). Is it producers saving money or have they just improved the technology?!
Personally I quite like them - there is a certain energy to them you just don't get with studio recordings

Lovely artwork except for the oLIVEr bit. Didn't think they'd release one because of the Palladium recording but I suppose the 'names' on the cd will sell it.

This is fantastic news! I actually don't own an Oliver recordng (shameful I know) and I'd definitely go and get this one just for the very fact it's recorded live. The WWRY recording is one of my favourite CD's ever and that was recordedlive and is brilliant. Also it'll be awesome to have Rowan Atkinson on CD!!!

I heard about this back in November - it's a great idea. It's not cheaper for Cameron, as he still has to pay very experienced audio technicians to record it and then edit all 4 performances very heavily to make it sound seamless and perfect.
It is sad there is no recording of Hairspray... but the Broadway one was only done 4 or so years ago. It's been 15 years since a good Oliver recording - and there have been changes in this production since the Palladium one musically. I also hope as this is a live recording, we will get the full versions of songs - as opposed to the cut versions that often appear on recording
