Sad Was looking forward to another treat from Mr Bean. So, any ideas what'll be instead? Has to be family friendly- maybe The Light Princess is back on the cards?!

NT webpage says:

We have put back our plan to produce The Count of Monte Cristo this winter and so it is no longer possible to book for this show. We will announce shortly the play that will be mounted instead and tickets will go on sale in the next booking period, which opens at the end of August.

This is an odd one, wonder if we'll find out why..

It just makes the whole notion of selling tickets much earlier than normal seem even odder.

A spokesman for the National said that NT artistic director Nicholas Hytner and Bean felt that the show would benefit from more development time and that the production’s replacement would be announced shortly.

I expect the early sale of tickets was an attempt to nab family bookers (who may see just one show over the winter season) before they are tempted to book for a West End show already booking into the new year. It seems that the development's taking longer than expected, and the show just couldn't be ready this year. Perhaps Sir Nick may consider Travelling Light to be ripe for revival in a larger theatre...

I am sorry to let you know that we have decided not to produce The Count of Monte Cristo this winter. We have decided to give the project some more development time, and hope to put it on in future years. We are presently deciding what to produce in its place, and that production will be announced in late August.

I was really looking forward to it. Fingers crossed the replacement's good.

Perhaps Mr Bean has got tied up in One Man Two Guvnors revisions for a world tour or overseas productions? Hopefully it will be on next year. I booked but it really didn't sound very Christmassy
