Kenneth Brannagh apparently turned down a CBE as long ago as 1994, which explained his absence from any honours lists over the years until now. His knighthood is well deserved for a career spanning over 25 years and with major success as both an actor and director.
I'm surprised that Mark Rylance has never received an honour for his outstanding stage career on both sides of the pond and also for his work with the Globe Theatre. Maybe he also has declined an honour in the past for personal reasons.
Simon Russell Beale was made a CBE in 2003 and so I would assume that his knighthood will follow in due course over the next 5 to 10 years.

I think the whole concept is nice and different really, though several of his tricks (the rain, the bell, Underworld) have already have had a test run on Frankenstein!

Shame he didn't also reuse the Cumberbatch in the nuddy idea

Well, you never know 'til the night! For all we know both Cumberbatch and JLM might be crawling round the track nude, and together lighting the Olympic cauldron....
But what I sincerely do hope is that Frankenstein's father has no part in this whatsoever. Now that was awful 'acting'.
