I saw it last night.  I guess I got lucky because I was easily able to get tickets online at 9:00.  Royal Court was oddly quiet as nothing is going on downstairs.  Strangely there were several signs posted explaining that the lift would close at 7:40.

Anyway, the play was good and I'm struggling to explain it without spoiling it for everyone.  The set is one room, a cabin in the woods by The River.  Grandstand seating, very traditional setup unlike a lot of the Upstairs plays.  The plot, such as it is, involves a LOT of talk about fishing.   There are several long monologues about fishing and the virtues of it.  You also get to see a fish cleaned and (I think) cooked onstage.  The other plot strand involves Dominic West's relationships with women he takes to the cabin.  Even though it is only 80 minutes long it is a play that takes its time.

The acting was great all around, especially Dominic West and Laura Donnelly, who has a lovely singing voice.  My partner and I really enjoyed it but don't go in expecting Jerusalem.  To be honest I think I would have been disappointed had I queued for several hours or moved heaven and earth to see it, so fair warning to you all.  Finally Colbert has just opened in the old Oriel space next door and it's wonderful for a post-River dinner.  Surprisingly reasonable and a nice bar too.

It's a beautiful delicate play. If people expect anything as bombastic as Jerusalem, they will be disappointed. But in its own way, it's quite magical. If you are interested in more details, I have written a post in my blog.

I should think so Lynette, it is a very traditional front on seating arrangement for upstairs.  It is intimate but all 5 of us who went on Saturday agreed it could have been done downstairs.  Could you not give the online lottery a whirl?

Anyway, I loved sitting in the front row for this.  I thought it was wonderful and I'd go the full ***** for sure.

I did a practice run this morning and got tickets in my basket (you might've got my returns at 9.05!), and yes, pretty easy. You just have to be quick!
