Do people really book this sort of thing 6 months in advance? Is Mr Bean that big a draw?

£25 balcony has put me off booking now. Will wait for dayseats (or travel to Bath/Brighton).

I do think this could be a big draw - most of his work over the last decade has been aimed at children and/or the lowest common denominator (the Bean movies, Johnny English, Oliver), and in between he has been reclusive, so the prospect of him doing something middle-brow for adults should appeal to his original constituency.

A trip to Bath for this one, I think.

The Bath and Brighton previews suggest the West End run will also be firmly marketed at Daily Telegraph-reading retired colonels in the Home Counties who will strategically plan their trip to town to catch this entertainment in the company of their good ladies.

As a teenager, I saw the original production with Edward Fox and Prunella Scales, I think. I thought it was a very satisfying play - shades of The Browning Version - and the characters are less obnoxious than in most other plays by Simon Gray. I wish it well!

My father is a Telegraph-reading retired colonel, and he's an advance member at the Theatre Royal Bath. I'm sure he'll be first in the queue for this. They did some more experimental stuff recently, but seem to be going back to star-led bankers.

Star-led bankers is very much the range at Bath- they've got Penelope Keith in Good Grief there later this year too.

Yes, star names is the only thing that sells tickets for plays. This play is rather dull in my opinion but will please school teachers and intellectuals.
