Not odd really! It's one of a series of RSC-commissioned productions from foreign companies for their World Shakespeare Festival. The Iraqi
Romeo and Juliet in Baghdad also opened at the Swan and later played at Riverside. A Tunisian
Macbeth adaptation, also commissioned by the RSC for the Festival, played Riverside but not Stratford. The Wooster Group has played Riverside several times over the years so I think it's the ideal London venue for this show.
