I've always slightly despised those people who descend on London for a couple of days and haven't booked any shows-but in this case it seems to be me!I have tickets for Jekyll and Hyde at the Union but otherwise I'm stumped.I've seen all the good stuff several times over;I'm not a huge fan of juke box musicals unless you count Jersey Boys;I don't like Elton John;won't see panto shows like WoZ and Shrek. There are some excellent shows touring (Phantom,Carousel,Sister Act,Wonderful Town)which I've seen and have spoiled me for lesser stuff. In Feb and March we took in Crazy For You,Ladykillers,Ramin's Les Mis,Sweeney Todd and Floyd Collins-all of which I loved.I'm seeing Richard 111 and Matilda in July.Wondered about Ragtime but the reviews are poor.Curtains would be great but it's not on for a while.Edwin Drood might be fun but not just after Jekyll.Top Hat's a possibility but I couldn't be bothered to see it when it came to Leeds;considered Singing in the Rain but it toured a few years ago and it's never going to improve on one of my favourite films. It's also very expensive.A nice concert would be OK but I haven't seen anything advertised.Help!

In case you're in town on June 7 and don't mind staying up late it might be worth checking out Off Duty.
Find them on Twitter: @offdutythursday.
Starts at 11pm at 12 Bar on Denmark Street, £6 on the door.
Performing are Hadley Fraser, Craig Mather, Rosalie Craig, Twinnielee Moore and Emily Lee. It's strictly no musical theatre songs. It's basically a chance for performers to get their own stuff out or perform some of their favourite non musical theatre songs.

Show wise I can highly recommend Singing in the rain. I adore the movie and was afraid it might not live up to it. I ended up totally loving the show. They do day seats at £25 if that's a possibility for you.

Not a musical, but I'd highly recommend Posh at the Duke of Yorks. There are offers if you are here midweek

Beware that it's half term (which may be the reason for your visit).

Good luck!

Thanks for that.It might be a bit of a dash to the concert from Jekyll but some great names there!(I do love Hadley but will he be doing Sheytoons stuff I wonder?)Had a look at Posh reviews and now certainly a very strong contender which I wouldn't have otherwise considered.I must say I have heard nothing but good things about Singing in the Rain though I'm a day ticket virgin. But it certainly sounds better value than the similarly priced seats in the gods with restricted view.Hopefully by the end of the week all the little dears will be on their way home draped in cutprice bunting and having had a jolly good time.

Why not Edwin Drood after Jekyll?  They may share a time period but nothing else and Drood is a wonderful production with an excellent cast.  Given the other shows you've liked I can pretty much guarantee this one.

And I would not classify Shrek as a panto.  It's quite sophisticated, in fact, especially for musical theatre fans who will get all the references.  And the score, after all, is by Jeannine Tesori, composer of Caroline, or Change.  If you haven't seen it I would say do so.

I did consider One Man Two Guvnors but I can't abide Jodie Prenger and it's touring in the autumn.Ghost too soppy for my taste and friends who saw it in Manchester didn't rate the music.I think you could be right about Edwin Drood-it's silly to compare the two really.Have booked Singing in the Rain matinee-daren't leave it for day tickets-and I'm sure it will be worth it.Still considering Posh (although no cheap seats Fridays and Saturdays)but I think it might just make me cross!Trouble is Shrek has been pitched at a family audience and given celebs in the main roles who can't sing.It will be full of sticky children and I come to London to get a break from them!but thanks all for the suggestions. Most helpful.

Dayseats for Posh are only £10 and when I queued the other weekend there were more than enough tickets without needing to queue too early.
Its well worth seeing, although yes it may well make you cross in parts but it is enjoyable as well as thought provoking.

Well that's all very satisfactory in the end.Jekyll,Singing in the Rain matinee,Edwin Drood (got half price tickets so it sort of made up for SITR)and I'll try and get tickets on Saturday morning for Posh.Brilliant-thank you.
