Trip to London this week for Recruiting Officer and Sweeney Todd. I'm fine for eating in Covent Carden, although, as we're getting the hotel free on credit card points, we might stretch to something slightly more luxe than the wonderful Benito'ss Hat. That has many things going for it (the food is great, the more so when you consider it's costing less than a tenner a head) but it isn't quite a romantic meal a deux when you've got rid of the kids for a few days. But I'm not as well versed in eateries down on the Strand: does any one have any secret suggestions? We eat anything and everything, so quality, interest and vibe are the determining factors...

It's just off the Strand, near The Lion King but Christophers is very nice if you fancy trading up a bit. Opposite there is Sophies Steakhouse which is a cheaper alternative. In general the Strand is lacking in decent places for food. Zizzis is the closest place to the Aldelphi.

Suggest you avoid pies given your viewing! And ANYWHERE is romantic without children and with a nice bottle of wine!

Oh, though I should say that don't go to Bistro 1 near Chirstmas. They give you an overpriced 'special' menu, and pretend they're not serving the normal which they are. Don't they, Latecomer?

Covent Garden is 30 seconds walk from the Strand, maybe two minutes to the theatre. London is pretty small really and it has great public transport.
Bistro one sounds good though

My vote goes to Sophie's Steakhouse as well. Their food is great and you can sign up on their website to get a voucher for a free 2 course pre-theatre menu.
