Blimey, how many have you seen, theatrepaul? I dont think I've seen more than one other production of this one. And I see a lotta Shakespeare.

You didn't see the Globe production with the mudslinging a couple of years ago? Or indeed the German Globe production earlier this year? With the onstage nudity one isn't allowed to mention   Or the Young Vic production with Poirot and Van Der Valk?

Or the Greg Doran one with Michael Pennington substituting for an indisposed Alan Bates ? You are excused for having not seen last years Baron's Court Theatre production of it though.

I've never seen the BBC Shakespeare version (with Jonathan Pryce) but the presence of Diana Dors in the cast must make it worth a look.

Diana "Revolving" Dors as we used to say in the old days. She appears to truly startling effect in Bob Monkhouse's autobiography - recommended.

In a way the Baron's Court Theatre production was the most interesting because I think they just played the test as-is, without hundreds of lines of additions from Trevor Nunn or Nicholas Hytner or whoever. The problem seems to be with the second half, it has been totally different in every production I have seen.

Tonight: 30 mins from the end, SRB walks over to get a bag near the "goldmine", slips, and snaps one of his fingers in two!

"I'm very sorry ladies and gentleman, I seem to have broken my finger".

He walks slowly off, 10mins wait, then Paul Dodds (Martin Chamberlain is not understudying SRB anymore) took over!  Amazing!  Get well soon SRB!

A friend was there and he told me. Riveted by it, any other incidents of injury on stage AND replacement by the understudy that you can remember?

I was at a performance of Hair in New York where Gavin Creel injured his foot and the understudy took over after interval.
