I've never seen the film. What's not to get with the storyline? I saw the show and got it, no problem. Also, as we are told many times, you shouldn't see a show purely to see a person. I'm told the understudy is good.

Ti be honest, I'm getting sickened by those who make brash statements that show the writer has no real appreciation if theatre.

to be fair, the producers havent helped in how they have handled her schedule. they should have known with her history and reputation what they were getting into.i like Heather but she is a pretty well known diva. considering how desperate she was for a career away from theatre, not performing doesnt give you opportunity to be discovered by wider audience.
whilst sacking her is an extreme comment I dont agree with pampering to performers and there are far more difficult roles out there and so many performers who have done 8 shows a week in demanding roles over the years and have battled through injury and sickness

i do wonder if this transfers to nyc, whether Heather would be replaced with Jennifer Hudson. Shes a bigger name and is now reported as wanting to do Broadway
