Just wondering if anyone has any recommendations for what to see in New York? I'm going with three friends mid-May, I'd like to see at least 1 musical and 1 play, but not break the bank!

If you haven't already, sign up to playbill.com - http://www.playbill.com/ - you will get sent discount offers that you could pre-book. Also keep an eye on tkts - if one of you has a smartphone there's an app you can download which shows you what's on offer and for how much. If you do this now you can keep an eye on likely discounts for the shows you're interested in.

Last month we went to see Anyhting Goes and Memphis, couldn't recommend them enough, we went for two unlikely to transfer to the West End and got our tickets at the TKTs booth. As far as plays go, I've been hearing very good things about Death of a Salesman.

my bestie and I have just come back from NYC, on Broadway we saw:- Memphis (totally recommend!) Anything Goes (brilliant old world musical, loved it) Jersey Boys (my favourite show both sides of the Atlantic) Mary Poppins (good clean fun) & Priscilla QOTD (preferred UK show, but still loved it).
Off-Broadway we saw:- Avenue Q (preferred it over here, but still a great show) Rent (bored me rigid, but my friend loved it)
We only used TKTS twice, once for Priscilla as we didnt get lottery & at the end of our stay we were at Seaport & randomly decided we wanted to see a show, so went to the TKTS booth there and got tickets for Mary Poppins.
The rest of the time, we used vouchers from Broadwayworld, which my friend signed up to before we left and we took the vouchers with us.
Only difference was Jersey Boys, the tickets we got were direct from the box office, as they were one row behind the rows we had the vouchers for and they were $12 each cheaper.
The queues at Seaport are much smaller than they are directly in Times Square, though they do move really quite quickly.
Seeee ya George..... See ya sunshine.... w****nker!

I was in New York last month and saw Jersey Boys, Priscilla and an off-broadway show called Fuerza Bruta.
If you are looking for something totally different and visually stunning definitely check out Fuerza Bruta. It is more performance art than theatre but it will be a night to remember!
I love Jersey Boys and everyone at the TKTS booth (I bought all my tickets from here, all were 50% and great seats) is always buying for Jersey Boys. I would say the West End cast is a lot better than on Broadway but it is always a great show!
Have fun!

I was thinking of asking the same question. I'm going to New York in June and have no idea what to see! I'll be seeing either one or two shows (depending on how cheap I can get tickets) and would like to see something I can't see in London and doesn't look likely to transfer over here any time soon. Any recommendations?
