Has anyone heard who will be appearing in Regent Park's Open Air production of Ragtime? Hoping Hannah Waddingham is mother...

It's an odd choice of musical for them - I can't remember them ever doing anything that wasn't unashamedly feelgood before.

Mmm, like all those sweet little kiddies in Lord of the Flies.

I didn't see that so didn't realise it was a musical. Certainly a different choice of revival though which could be a commercial risk.

No, LotF wasn't a musical!

Into the Woods isn't particularly feelgood either!

I love Ragtime, I'm excited for this. I've never seen a musical open air before.

Into the Woods gets done by schools (and the Open Air version was as feelgood as they come). The Beggars Opera was complete pants but it would have been thought of as a jolly romp in its day. I guess I'm alone in thinking this is a but of a change for them musicals-wise

Ragtime isn't exactly jolly, it's true, but the ending IS uplifting, it's not all doom and gloom. It is a large ensemble piece with big orchestrations, perfect for such a large open setting. I think it's an excellent choice.
