Great news. This is an amazing musical with a brilliant score and a deeply heartbreaking story that leaves one shattered at its conclusion - not unlike Parade.. As most of it takes place in a cave The Southwark's Vault couldn't be more perfect for it.

Already booked. It's my favourite musical in the world and I cannot WAIT for this opportunity to see it.

A lot of the £10 early booker tickets are gone already, so snatch up the last few!

I just posted about this in the Southwark Playhouse thread in the Fringe section. Anyway, here's what I said:
The cast for the upcoming Floyd Collins looks rather good, esp Ryan Sampson (aka Mr Circlelinejoke). I don't know this piece at all.... is it any good? Good music, story etc??? Man stuck in cave doesn't sound like the most thrilling musical, thought The Vault sounds like a great space for it. Anyway, is this worth seeing?

It's based on a true story (also used for the Billy Wilder film Ace in a Hole). As has been said, not one for people who like a happy ending (or are claustrophobic
)

I wasn't all that thrilled by the music but the story is far more compelling than it sounds, and all the more so for being true. It's well worth seeing.
Huzzah!

I know nothing about it, except what I've read of the story, and have never heard any of the music but I booked as soon as it was announced based on the reaction of other board posters. After all, if I never go to see anything new (to me at least) how will I ever know what I really like?! And at just £10 it's got to be worth the gamble.

No, it's by no means a happy ending, but Floyd's last song "How Glory Goes" provides one of the truly great finales in modern musical theatre leaving one shattered but curiously elated and transformed, the way all good theatre does.

I saw it at The Bridewell [ was that its first outing?] It is very glum. Don't make it the birthday treat for your best pal.
