I was wondering if anyone on here had any tips or advice in how best to proceed in a career in theatre sound.

I am a 2nd year music technology student at Birmingham City University with a strong interest in theatre. As part of my course it is suggest I go on a placement year after this year's tuition. Who should I get in contact with to enquire if it is possible for me to work for them? Does the producer of the show dicate that, or are there specialised sound companies that the producer hires in?

Any tips would be greatly appreciated

A Sound Designer would be engaged by the Producer. Performance operators would be engaged by the Production Manager (I think). Kit more often than not does come from Orbital or Autograph but they don't supply personnel other than for the fit-up (I think)

I'm an ignorant woodpusher so with any luck someone will be along to correct or expand where necessary
