It has already been announced that she has been offered the part but is still undecided as to play her or not!

Sorry do you mean Amy Adams has been offered the role or Idina Menzel?

According to the Los Angeles Examiner Emma Watson will be playing Cossett.

The lead actors cast in "Les Miserables" so far include Golden Globe Award nominated Hugh Jackman as Jean Valjean, Academy Award winner Russell Crowe as Javert, Academy Award winner Geoffrey Rush as Monsieur Thenardier, two-time Academy Award nominee Helena Bonham Carter as Madame Thenardier, Academy Award nominee Anne Hathaway as Fantine, and five-time Teen Choice Award winner Emma Watson as Cosette.

Looks like the Emma Watson as Cosette rumour was false - it seems they might be going with an unknown as there are lots of operatically trained young girls being put up for it. However, it seems the Anne Hathaway as Fantine rumour is true! BroadwayWorld.com have reported it here: Anne Hathaway confirmed as Fantine in the Les Miserables film by Cameron Mackintosh.

They say that Cameron Mackintosh mentions Anna Hathaway's name when talking about casting for the movie in an interview with BBC Radio. Did anyone hear it or can anyone listen to it? Also....what do we know on Anne Hathaway's singing abilities??...

She's a very capable singer, but not mindblowing. Actually, she sung a parody of On My Own at the Oscars this year. Look it up on YouTube, it's actually pretty good.
Blood Brothers, Chicago, End of the Rainbow, Ghost, Hair, Hairspray (UK Tour), Legally Blonde X2, Les Misérables X3, The Lion King, Matilda, The Phantom of the Opera, Spamalot (UK Tour), Sister Act, Sweeney Todd (Chichester), We Will Rock You, Wicked X3

MusicalMadness,  Cameron Mackintosh was interviewed on a BBC Radio Four Front Row arts programme a week or so ago.  That show should be available from the Radio Four Front Row podcasts on ITunes as it is probably now gone from iplayer.  In that interview he confirmed the casting of Anne Hathaway as Fantine, along with Hugh Jackman and Russell Crowe. No other casting was mentioned. He also mentioned March 2012 as the start date for filming. As for Anne's singing ability...those who saw the Oscars broadcast this year would have seen (and heard!) her sing a comedic version of "On my Own" from Les Mis to Hugh Jackman (who resolutely stayed in the audience and refused to join her on stage, a skit which was obviously well planned). She has a quite strong voice. I am sure there's a clip of this available on You Tube for those wishing to hunt it out.

Eddie Redmayne has been cast as Marius. Getting a bit closer to West End 'territory' with the casting now...

I guess Marius will not be singing then.  His recent credits is in the movie about My Week With Marilyn and he is a former model.  Nothing about singing.

It always makes me laugh that just because someone has never sung in a role before people assume they can't sing. Would you assume if someone has only done
Musicals before that they can't do straight acting?

I've heard he was part of the National Youth Music Theatre and has been a chorister all the way through school and university... Other recent credits include Red at the Donmar and winning an Olivier for it so I don't understand the negativity. Sounds good to me in terms of singing and acting.
