Well if that is the case, I'm still of the opinion that they should do musical theatre songs and tough on the non-musical loving viewers, maybe they'll be enlightened! lol

I agree.

However, I'm sure the choice of music is motivated mainly by the desire to find songs that allow the viewers to join in. I wouldn't be surprised if the contestants feel the same way, as there can be no question that many of the audience will be more disposed to vote for a song they love than one that's unfamiliar, ovine as they are.
