I went to see Wicked for the first time yesterday and Nikki Davis Jones was on for Elphaba, I thought she was brilliant, such a powerfull voice and great chemistry with Louise Dearman. Has anyone else seen her in this role when Rachel Tucker has not been on?

I've seen Nikki and thought she was fab, much better than Rachel Tucker has came across when she's performed it on the TV (Dancing on Ice for example. . .). Nikki's version of "The Wizard and I" was definately one of the highlights. :D

Excessive rooting for understudies usually irritates me, but in my opinion there is no comparison between NDJ and Rachel Tucker. One I avoid at all costs, one I would make a beeline to see. Nikki has this funny, geeky, awkward character thing going on which I love, Rachel is hugely unlikeable at every stage. You're supposed to be on Elphaba's side and want her to win out, which Nikki brings across very well. Much love.

I've seen Nikki's 'Elphie' over 20 times now and I definitely agree that she is a more likeable/believable Elphaba than Rachel Tucker. I've seen Rachel a few times too and she has a great voice, but her acting isn't really to my taste. I find her Elphie to be a bit one-dimensional and way too angry in act 1 when it's not really needed. Nikki has the right balance between the playful/innocent Elphie in act 1 and the slightly more angry/mature Elphie in act 2, in my opinion. :) And I just love her voice - her 'Wizard & I' is always a highlight; so is Defying Gravity and No Good Deed. Amazing performer!

I saw Nikki in Saturday's matinee, I thought she was flawless.  I haven't seen Rachel Tucker play the role but from what I have seen on YouTube she might not be to my taste, not geeky enough.Off topic, but I wasn't so impressed with Gina Beck as Glinda.  She was excellent in the spoken parts, and beautiful, but I thought she didn't pull off the comedy so well compared to that older girl who used to play the role in London.  It's a good excuse to go again, to see Rachel and see if Gina was just having an off day!
