Glad to hear that Christopher as JVJ is fab as I am going to see him in the role in March.

Adam as Grantaire is usually very good. However, the past 3 performances I have seen, he was going for laughs quite balatantely, even in the barcade scene just before BHH. I didn't think that was appropreate. Why is he doing this? Is he bored of playing this role in a normal way, or what?  I think he should drop it.

I've never really warmed to Adam's Grantaire at all. I find his characterisation odd and he does play it for laughs quite a lot. And I'm not sure what he thinks he's doing during the Final Battle on the top of the barricade... I'm not sure if anyone else has noticed that, but it looks like a Jesus Christ Superstar impression to me

I thought about the JCS thing too!

That said, I really like his Grantaire.  His affection for Gavroche is moving.  And I swear sometimes I see a gay subtext between his Grantaire and Enjolras, but maybe I'm just looking for something new.

Glad that I'm not the only one there :P

I just don't like him in the Cafe scenes and the way he completely ignores Enjolras. He doesn't even look at him. And later he seems to care more about Gavroche and Marius. Doesn't work for me I'm afraid, but hey, each to their own.

Personally I think Adam is the best Grantaire yet! He's the only one that has moved me to tears. However, I don't like Liam Tamne's Enjolras in relation to Grantaire. He mostly seems to think that Grantaire is difficult. With Scott Garnham's Enjolras though, I think it works perfectly. There is a true friendship connection there which I really like. I don't think Adam's playing it for laughs at all - rather, he pretty much embodies the Grantaire I imagine when reading the novel.

Except Enjolras is definitely not friends with Grantaire. At all... I liked the way Thaxton and Neely played the relationship in the 2009 cast, for example...
Has anyone seen Zoe Doano as Cosette? I thought she was wonderful, much more vocally comfortable with the score than Lisa-Anne Wood I felt.

I haven't seen Zoe as Cosette, but I think she has a beautiful voice and would very much like to. She's more experienced than Lisa so it's a given. I like Lisa a lot though, I like that she (along with Craig) is a newcomer to this whole industry, It's their first major role for both of them, I think the fact that they're learning and going through this experience together gives them something extra on stage, a stronger bond. I think they have a lovely chemistry, one I've never felt between a Marius & Cosette before, it's touching :)

I've never really thought about the relationship between Enjolras and Grantaire before, but is it so hard to believe that Enjolras wouldn't like him all that much? Here he is trying to lead a revolution against a cause he believes so passionately about, and there's a guy who's contstantly drunk and maybe Enjolras thinks that he's not taking it seriously. Adam's moved me to tears in 'Drink with me' and the final battle scene, I think he puts so much into the character and has really thought about it. In any show, not just this one, sometimes I tend to pay more attention to the ensemble than the leads and I love to see backgrond artists giving their all to a character knowing the majority of the audience probably won't be watching them.

An ensemble make a show, and this current Les Mis company are top notch. My favourite girl is Mary Cormack, I've seen her in a show before and she has a superb voice.

I saw her some months back in the role I immediately thought her singing was at ease with the score. Her top end never seemed strained & her acting  equalled Lias's. I was hoping to see her again IMO she's the better Cosette.

I saw her for the first time on Monday and really liked her. She's got a lovely voice and great chemistry with Craig Mather's Marius and Chris Jacobsen's Valjean. And she doesn't do that stroppy teenager thing in In My Life, which I hate.
