There are a lot of very good off West End and fringe theatres that often look for ASMs / people to help with get ins etc. Most of these will be very happy for you to volunteer to do some work backstage for them, and it's a great way of meeting people who actually work in theatre and getting experience for your CV. Try the Arcola, Chocolate Factory, Gate etc to name a few. Also ask them to put you in touch with companies that are going there in case they need help.
