[Whatsonstage.com]

Hi everyone

We're trying to do more fun Top Five and Top Ten features on Whatsonstage.com and we'd love input from you lot, our most knowledgeable readers. We've got two coming up that we're brainstorming at the moment.

Wherever possible in these lists, we'd like to first highlight shows that are currently in production, or coming up, so that readers may have an opportunity to see if they're interested. Beyond that, any shows, current or not, that simply best fit the stated theme.

• Firstly, to tie in with the Royal Wedding, we're doing a run-down of plays or musicals that include weddings (or at least engagements). So straight off, we've got Betty Blue Eyes, Mamma Mia! and Much Ado About Nothing for current/upcoming. Any other ideas?

• Secondly, shows to tie in with Easter, be they set around Easter specifically or dealing more generally with Christianity, the messiah, the resurrection, eg Jesus Christ Superstar. This one may be more of a mixed bag!

We'll let you know when the features are published, and in each we will, of course, credit any board users whose contributions we include.

Godspell (which will run at the Union from April 13-May 7) is a good tie in for Easter.

As for Royal Weddings, Shrek and Princess Fiona marry in Shrek the Musical and they later become King/Queen of Far Far Away.

Sadly not on at the moment but Drowsy Chaperone for weddings!

Mash-ups are popular these days, so I'm thinking of a re-staging of "The Producers", but instead of Hitler (so un-shocking, dahling, that it made for a good school musical last week) instead they decide to adapt Ballard's "Crash" via Cronenberg's film of the same material (1).  As song-book musicals are popular, too, they could throw in David Bowie's noted album of toe-tapping tunes and popular dance numbers "Low" --- Side 1 Track 5 "Always crashing in the same car" should make for quite a good Act 1 climax.


(1) Some acquaintances went to the DVD shop to get a heart-warming multi-stranded urban drama with Sandra Bullock and Thandie Newton.  Well, they got the right title, at least...
