What's going on in the theatre while Paul G is wittering on? What are we missing? Lots and lots of toilet and bar breaks, or is Elaine coming up and giving a ten minute talk between each award?

So pleased and proud that the NT has done so well this year
LND got the grossest insult with no wins- bit of a Spamalot moment
Pleased for Legally Blonde, which shone in a really weak selection of new musicals
It's really interesting to compare the Olivier wins to the WOS awards. The latter of the two really show how amateur they are in the fact that the NT failed to win any of the awards. This is surely due to tickets being harder to obtain for the NT shows? The weakness is exposed as I doubt most people have seen all the shows in any single category

We're missing the awards ceremony/presentations/speeches etc. Whilst watching 2 annoying Americans chat in a broom cupboard, Twitter is keeping me informed about who's won what.
Unforgivable = cutting the best actress speech to talk to Gok Wan in the broom cupboard. Baffling.

The musicals went the same way as WOS though - well done Legally, Sheridan , Jill and David.
Angela Lansbury has just sung from A Little Night Music - showing just how brilliant Maureen Lipman was.

The NT only won one WOS award
Royal Court won none
I am sure the WOS awards have their place
But having seen ALL the shows nominated in the Oliviers 2011 I reckon the results are very fair indeed and they have recognised the sheer brilliance of the ensembles that continue to stun and enthrall at the National
