Over on the WOS musical board and many other musical message boards, there is a general agreement that the Shaftesbury is cursed due to the lack of success it has had in the last decade or so but what other theatres have been considered unlucky or cursed in the past and could be done to break this so-called Shaftesbury curse?

Haymarket Leicester for getting Paul Kerryson (I am not a fan) though many people rave about his stuff.

Many theatres have gone through bad spells - the Shaftesbury is currently holding the baton (as it were) but in the past it has been a very successful theatre. The previous holder of the "title" was the Piccadilly and before that the Phoenix. The Savoy, Playhouse, Royalty (Peacock), New London, Old Vic, Fortune and Duchess Theatres have all had occasional spells of ill-luck. These things come in cycles - one good hit is all that is required to reverse the curse!
The engine roared, the motor hissed,
And who could see that the road would twist
