'No Thoroughfare' by Wilkie Collins and Charles Dickens
Sunday 3rd June, 8pm at the King's Head Theatre, Islington

Written in 1866 by the two most famous novelists of the Victorian age, No Thoroughfare is a gripping murder mystery based on Charles Dickens’s short story of the same name. Seen only once in Britain since its original West End run, and never performed since 1904, this is a remarkable opportunity to see Dickensian drama on stage.


It will be performed for one night only on Sunday 3rd June as part of Primavera's acclaimed 'Forgotten Classics' series of staged readings at the King's Head Theatre, in a new version directed by Tom Littler.

Set in London and Switzerland, No Thoroughfare is the thrilling tale of a lost inheritance, and a man who will stop at nothing to get what he wants. When the handsome George Vendale departs for Switzerland after the unexpected death of his best friend, he soon finds himself trapped in the Alps with the ruthless impostor Obenreizer. With a snow storm closing in, it is left to Vendale’s beautiful young fiancée Marguerite to follow him and unravel the threads of a mystery even darker and more dangerous than anyone suspects...

Loo Brealey, who is best known for her roles as Roxie Bird in Casualty and as Judy “Shake me up!” Smallweed in the BBC series of Bleak House, will play the feisty heroine Marguerite. She is about to star in the Peter Hall production of Little Nell at the Theatre Royal, Bath, as Ellen Ternan – actress, beauty, and mistress of Charles Dickens.  

Loo will be joined by David Cardy (best known as Chris Theodopolopodous in BBC's Birds of a Feather) and a cast of West End actors.
