Sorry. This damned inferiority complex of mine. Sorry. Won't happen again.

It would be interesting on this topic of over-rated productions to have a 'podium place' listing.
I would go for:
1 Billy Elliot
2 The History Boys
3 Equus

I went to see Total Eclipse last night and I can't believe the press loved it.
I thought the actual play and it's set design are great. But the direction was lame and each actor appeared to be in a different show (i.e. Lady Windermere's fan, Grange Hill and Sunday in the Park with George). They just wern't convincing or not in actual text.

Broadway has been very good to me. But then, I've been very good to broadway.

I agree about the NT production of An Inspector Calls. It is a rather creaky play that was given a vastly overblown treatment.
One of my favourite musicals, Cabaret, was absolutely ruined in the current puerile version - well, almost absolutely. The actors were great, but it was an uphill struggle for them, all the way. And it is such an ugly production to look at.
I didn't think Wicked was overrated, as almost every review I read of it was pretty awful. But I actually enjoyed it.
