Managed to see first and second previews, and they were both fantastic!
Both performances had Full House signs out, and both ended to standing ovations!
As someone has already written, Sheridan Smith was INCREDIBLE! She was mesmerising whenever she was on stage, no matter how many others were on too! As well as being a brilliant actress, she is an excellent singer and dancer. A truly versatile STAR!
I thought that both her leading men, Duncan James and Alex Gaumond, were well cast, and made their characters really believable. Peter Davison's 'Professor' snatches a kiss from a shocked Elle....the cad! Some really great comedy scenes, and choreography (especially 'Whipped into Shape'), from a wonderful cast. Too many to name them all, but they were all excellent. Credit to director Jerry Mitchell and congratulations to the hard-working company! Great, entertaining show for the whole family. Definitely going to see it again!

This show is one of biggest surprises ever - it is very smart, amazingly funny, classy, uplifting and actually rather moving. it looks wonderful and it is perfectly cast. i predict this will be a big, big hit.

Seen all three previews so far. My favourite show and cast ever. Love Sheridan. Last night she was vocally the best I've seen her. Managed to make the last note of SMB without the breath in the middle and also made it look effortless. LOVE HER.

Also major love for Amy, Susan and Alex. This show has been perfectly cast (apart from maybe Duncan but I think he will ease into the role a bit more as time goes on)

Lets not forget that he is the least qualified actor on that stage so to speak so give the guy some credit...its previews still and in time he will be great!!

Haha! I've just read this thread for the first time today, and I LOVE that someone said:

"I am a 40 something gay male who LOVES musical theatre! I pride myself with having a lot of theatre knowledge as i used to be a musical director for many years in the westend."

and

"For the record people, Duncan James was very competent as a westend newcomer!"

in the same post! That's brilliant! I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt, and assume they knew about James's stint in Chicago and therefore this is actually an incredibly sly dig. wink.gif

I don't see anything terrible with Duncan's performance but I do think it could have been cast better. I'm sure he's going to improve over time.
