Win! A pair of tickets for Awaking Beauty at Stephen Joseph Theatre
November 24, 2008
Awaking Beauty
Stephen Joseph Theatre, Scarborough
11 December – 17 January
We’re running a competition with Stephen Joseph Theatre to win two pairs of tickets to see Sir Alan Ayckbourn’s 72nd play. It will be his last as SJT artistic director.
The Show:
Although there will be great sadness at the end of Ayckbourn’s 36-year tenure at SJT, his final play will provide cheer.
Awaking Beauty is a musical sequel to Sleeping Beauty in which the idyllic future that its predecessor suggests is under threat. Princess Aurora and the handsome prince whose kiss ends her century of slumber look poised to fall in love and live happily ever after, but they and their well-wishers have forgotten Aurora’s wicked godmother, Carabosse.
It seems that Carabosse has become similarly besotted with the prince. She is determined to steal him from Aurora and, as we know from Sleeping Beauty, won’t think twice about using the most dastardly witchcraft that she can think of to get what she wants.
This mischievous sequel to the familiar fairy tale is Ayckbourn’s third collaboration with composer Denis King, following Whenever (2000) and Orvin – Champion of Champions (2003). It stars Annalene Beechey, Alice Fearn, Ben Fox, Anna Francolini, Helen French, Jon-Paul Hevey, Ian McLarnon, Duncan Patrick, Verity Quade and Matthew White.
Stephen Joseph Theatre wishes to highlight that some of the play’s themes might be thought unsuitable for children.
The Method:
Win one of two pairs of tickets to see Awaking Beauty at Stephen Joseph Theatre on Friday 2nd January.
To enter, email your name and email address to yorkshire@whatsonstage.com, marking the subject line ‘Awaking Beauty’.
The competition closes on 29th December. Winners will be contacted by 31st December at the latest.
