It’s great to be here, although we aren’t really there yet, though I’m sure once we get to where we’re going, which is there, it will be great to be here, there and everywhere. There. We’re going to be doing a show at the Royal College of Surgeons (7-8pm, 3rd-25th August) which features individual stand-up sets of just over 20 minutes each, coupled with 15 minutes of filmed sketches, snippets of which can be seen in the trailer below. WHAT IS THE INVASIAN FESTIVAL?
It is the first all-Asian festival to be held under one roof, with companies presenting music, dance, drama, and comedy from all parts of Asia; China, Japan, India, Russia, Israel, Korea, and a host of British-based Asian companies; 40 events, 30 companies, 500 performers and staff, over 20 pieces of new work (with three being considered for Freedom of Expression awards), plus many workshops, all presented in the name of multicultural artistic diversity; www.invasianfestival.com
WHERE IS IT?
It is being presented at the magnificent newly -built Quincentenary Hall at the Royal College of Surgeons, Nicolson Street. The venue has four hi-tech performance spaces, together with onsite bar and cafe, and is one of the best located and best equipped venues at this year’s Fringe.
WHY IS IT?
In recent years, British Asian and multicultural diversity has been very much under represented at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, and the InvAsian Festival umbrella has provided an opportunity and added support for more companies to participate.
