West End Cast Debut Gwon’s Ordinary Days at Finborough

October 17, 2008

Julie Atherton in Avenue QThe forthcoming European Premiere of Adam Gwon’s new musical Ordinary Days (3, 9, 10, 16, 17 November 2008) at the Finborough Theatre combines both established and emerging talent. Newcomer Adam Lenson directs an experienced cast including Julie Atherton (pictured - Avenue Q, Fame, Just So, The Last Five Years), Kenneth Avery-Clark (The Producers, The Drowsy Chaperone, The Music Man), Hayley Gallivan (Fiddler On The Roof, Lady Be Good, Follies in Concert) and Lee William-Davis (Mamma Mia, Mary Poppins, Love’s Labour’s Lost).

In Ordinary Days, the young American composer and lyricist Adam Gwon tells a story about “growing up and enjoying the view”. Gwon explores how the ordinary lives of four New Yorkers are turned into something extraordinary by the catalyst of one seemingly small event. When Deb loses the notes to her graduate thesis, she loses her most valued possession. The lives of four other individuals are then woven into the story which looks at the connections between people and events.

The production employs “intricately connected songs and vignettes” and boasts an original score by a young writer with a growing reputation in the United States – his credits there include musicals Bernice Bobs Her Hair, Lulu and Some Place Like Home. On Saturday 1 November, there will be an exclusive concert featuring extracts from Ordinary Days and selected material from Gwon’s other works. This is to be performed in anticipation of the premiere and will be at St Paul’s Knightsbridge.

Ordinary Days is designed by Bec Chippendale, with musical direction by Richard Healey. It is presented by Chris Hancock in association with Steph Joab for Treasuretrove.
