As an artist myself, I have walked into (and out of) quite a few art galleries in my time, not to mention artists’ studios and theatres. My initial concern about the staging of a new production of Stephen Belber’s play Tape within an exhibition at Scream Gallery arose from a general unease with ‘using’ artwork as a secondary prop or background, with the likelihood that it becomes undermined or misrepresented in some way. However, the positioning of Bruce French’s paintings within such an unconventional theatrical context offers the viewer a new light in which to view his work. Read more »
