There are several musicals that stand the test of time and Chicago is up there with the best of them. While the London production seems to run with regular stunt casting keeping the tourists coming back for more, on tour we have always had a first class cast who leave you wanting more, just the way it should be.
In the past we have seen Jennifer Ellison and John Altman lead the tours, both giving decent performances in their respective roles, but this time the casting is in a different league. On this current tour we have a truly recognisable face as money grabbing lawyer Billy Flynn. Read more

Having seen David Essex perform several times already, in both musicals and concerts, there is one thing for certain; he has his loyal fans that will follow him wherever he goes and in their eyes he can do no wrong. Therefore combining his hits in to musical, starring the man himself, was a sure fire winner from the start.
Over the past few years we have seen these compilation shows take many forms, some of which are massively successful, like Mamma Mia and We Will Rock You. Sadly All the Fun of the Fair is not in their league. Read more

For King and Country, a play by John Wilson, tackles how soldiers were treated if they apparently deserted the Army during the First World War, they usually had one outcome, a firing squad.
This production of the play is presented by The Touring Partnership in association with the Theatre Royal, Newcastle and contains some excellent performances , especially Adam Gillen as Private Arthur Hamp, but never feels as if it gets out of first gear.
We first meet Hamp, excellently play by Adam Gillen, as he is interviewed about exactly how he came to desert his post. It is apparent that he is a troubled young man, but he needs to explain his motives for desertion, if not the Court Marshal will lead to the death penalty. Read more

I have never seen the hit movie or London version of this musical so The Witches of Eastwick is a totally new show to me. Being a little unsure as what to expect, I soon found I was wrapped up in the story and thoroughly enjoying the show.
The premise is simple, set in the 1950s there are three friends who live in an American town called Eastwick and wish for the man of their dreams. Then a stranger buys a house, who turns out to be one Darryl Van Horne, the devil himself and the man they had been waiting for. Soon the three women are at his every beck and call, much to the consternation of the good folk of Eastwick. We do have a sub plot regarding one the son of one of the women and his girlfriend, but the main action revolves around the women and Darryl. Read more

I have to admit that I have seen the Cirque Du Soleil a few times before, but that has been limited to brief extracts of their shows when I have been in the audience at the Royal Variety Performance.
How this works in a two hour show always puzzled me until now, when finally Newcastle has its chance to stage one of their spectacular shows. The Arena has been changed in to the North Easts largest theatre for the event and with Mamma Mia! the musical, coming to the venue later this year, we could see more and more theatrical productions here.
The Cirque Du Soleil is a global hit with seventeen productions running world-wide, with six of those are in various hotels in Las Vegas
So it was with a great deal of curiosity that I attended Quidam. Read more
