A new take on a well known and very popular musical, based on the 80s film and TV show FAME, following a group of aspiring teenage students, as they push themselves to the limit, displaying dedication and resilience at New York’s High School of performing arts, their goal, to reach the finish line of graduation and seek FAME.
Each student brings their own characteristics and storylines handling controversial topics and troubled souls, all are clearly portrayed, from Mable Washington, (Terisha Rommick), the overweight, loudmouthed dancer who ignores everyone’s advice to slim down and injects humour at every opportunity, to Tyrone Jackson (Spin) the confident womaniser who struggles with his inability to read, to Schlomo Metzenbaum (Nicholas Larkin) the son of a famous musician who finds and loses love, and Carmen Diaz (Holly James) who struggles to overcome her demons and the addiction of drugs. Alf Ramsey sets local record!

As the curtain fell on Alf Ramsey Knew My Grandfather over the weekend, the Gala Theatre in Durham was celebrating attracting a record number of new customers for the production.
Four and a half thousand people saw the show, which told the tale of West Auckland Football Club’s historic win of the first ever football world cup in 1909. Of these customers, nearly a quarter were new to the theatre, a phenomenal amount for the show which only ran for ten days. Director, Simon Stallworthy, said,
“Alf Ramsey Knew My Grandfather welcomed hundreds of new customers to Gala, in addition to the thousands of returning visitors. We’re delighted that the story reached out and encouraged people who have never previously attended to come along and see the show. The audience responses were very positive, and we hope to welcome them back in the future.” Read more

Are The Pitmen Broadway Bound?
April 26, 2009
The Pitmen Painters is possible Broadway bound.
Although not confirmed, the story is not denied either, so lets hope its true and the North East play joins Billy Elliott on Broadway
The play was written for the reopening of the Live Theatre, in Newcastle, and due to its success returned to the Live, before transferring to the National Theatre. But demand meant a second visit to the National was required and a UK tour takes place later this year with the Theatre Royal, in Newcastle, confirmed as one of the stops for the play, (29th September to 3rd October).
Hopefully after the tour, if all goes well, the play will deservedly travel stateside.
