Mickey Mouse arrives with a host of familiar faces along with two illusionists called Brad and Benny to present Mickey’s Magic Show. Much to the audiences delight we have Minnie, Donald Duck, Goofy and Daisy Duck all taking centre stage in this one and a half hour show.
The tricks and illusions are presented by way of large set pieces which give Disney another reason to introduce further well known characters. The first of these is a segment on Alice in Wonderland revolving around the Mad Hatter, then we move on to the likes of Cinderella, who is transformed before our very eyes from kitchen maid to the belle of the ball complete with carriage.
The most successful of these segments is Aladdin in which the illusions are worthy of David Copperfield, the master illusionist himself.
Obviously this show is aimed at children and my daughters thought it was wonderful, full of colour, extremely cleaver and fun. From an adults perspective I thought the show fell short of the usual high standards expected from Disney, I was expecting some larger totally mind baffling illusions rather than the routines your regularly see on TV and stage shows. Ok they are not done by Disney Characters elsewhere but the basis is the same.
As for the two “human” friends brought along by Mickey, Brad and Benny, they involved the audience and were a nice link between the characters and the children. They borrowed a pair of shoes from a young girl which turned in to Cinderella’s slippers and brought children up on stage to assist with their illusions.
Being Disney there was the usual large range of merchandise stalls and it was hard to find a child who was not clutching a Disney doll, T Shirt or other form of merchandise on sale.
Overall the children loved the showed which was full of colour and fast moving which is what really matters. Basically, this is a Disney show that delights its young audience, who could ask for more.
